Hello and welcome to my Summer Newsletter. This Maine lake looks so inviting. It's the season of swimming, boating, cookouts, and of course reading. I can't wait to spend a long summer afternoon by the water with a great book.
Today is the official birthday of, Murder on the Green!

Maeve and company take a long awaited holiday to Ireland and of course, murder follows. This book involves Irish lore and history. I really enjoyed writing this mystery. It's available through many retailers:
Fresh Fiction published an excerpt of Murder on the Green which you can read here:
Recent Author Talks
I had a busy Spring with author talks. I always bring Maeve's Triple Fudge cake from Murder at the Wedding. Chocolate and mysteries just seem to go together.

What a fabulous bookstore in Quincy Center. There is plenty of parking and the owners are delightful. It was a special night.

The Norwell Public Library has a unique setting. It was recently rebuilt and trees and greenery are visible from every window. It is a true oasis. I had a wonderful audience.

I was honored to attend the MA Library Association Conference as a member of Sisters in Crime/New England. Libraries are so vital for all ages.

I was honored to have Murder on the Books included on the Sisters in Crime /New England poster.

Looking for a fabulous museum? If you are in Massachusetts, consider the Hull Lifesaving Museum. The exhibits are breathtaking and so informative. My audience was wonderful. I was so taken by it, I plan to feature a maritime museum in a future mystery.
Exciting News!

I am thrilled to report that Harlequin Worldwide Mysteries has released a mass market version of Murder at the Wedding. It has a new cover, smaller size and is less costly. Looking at this cover, I know that Fenway must be so proud!
Sailor's Valentines
I wrote about Sailor's Valentines in Murder on the Books. I am lucky to own one by a New Bedford artist but recently took a workshop led by Mandy Howe and Duxbury Rural & Historical Society Archivist and Historian, Carolyn Ravenscroft. Although I have very little artistic ability, I attempted to make one. Even though, it's a bit wonky, I had a great time and really like it.

Midwifery Corner
I was a nurse midwife for many years and always include an article on women's health in my newsletter. Recently, I was interviewed about the origins of nurse-midwifery in Massachusetts. Here is a photo of me as a young midwife.

Boston Globe Magazine
Perimenopause is often ignored. Below is an article from the New York Times on Perimenopause and Sleep Issues.

Recipe Corner

i recently made this pie. It's great for the summer, so easy and tastes delicious! You do need a food processor. No calorie count included!
NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE PIE
25 minutes total plus 2 hours chilling
Serves 10
INGREDIENTS
20 cream filled sandwich cookies (such as Oreo) plus more for garnish
1/2 cup butter, divided ( I used less...see recipe)
1 1/4 cups heavy whipping cream
1 ( 12 oz) package semisweet chocolate chips (I used Ghiradelli)
Sweetened whip cream for garnish ( I used a can of Cabot's Whipped Cream)
1) Grease a 9 inch pie plate with cooking spray and set aside
Process chocolate sandwich cookies into fine crumbs in a food processor for approximately 45 seconds.
Microwave 1/4 cup butter in a small bowl until melted, about 30 seconds. With food processor running, add melted butter and pulse until well combined, about 15 seconds more
2) Transfer the crumb mixture to prepared pie plate. Firmly press the crumbs into the bottom and up the sides of the pie plate in an even layer.
Freeze for 15 minutes.
3) Meanwhile, heat the cream in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming. DO NOT BOIL. Pour hot cream over the chocolate chips in a large heatproof mixing bowl. Let stand 3 minutes. Gently whisk the chocolate mixture until smooth. Cut the remaining 1/4 cup butter into small pieces, and add to chocolate mixture. Stir until butter is completely melted and incorporated. (I used 2 Tbsp of butter)
4) Pour chocolate mixture into chilled crust, spreading in an even layer. Chill pie, uncovered, until set, about 2 hours. Top with whip cream just before serving. Sprinkle with additional crushed cookies.
Friday Flowers
I post flowers every Friday. I thought I would end with some recent ones.

Best wishes for a great summer. Hope you enjoy the newsletter and Murder on the Green. Until next time...
