Happy Fall! Here in New England the beginning of October has brought a run of mild, sunny weather, albeit with a tinge of autumn in the air. Pumpkins, corn mazes, apple picking, vibrant mums, hay rides, and all things maple dominate the days.

Although every season has its charm, autumn in New England is truly enchanting. As a two year old friend of mine said, "Look, the trees have colors!" Acorns rain down daily as the landscape majestically turns orange, gold, and red. I can't resist adding bright seasonal decor to my front steps and apple cider donuts always find a way into to my shopping basket.

I have been busy recording book number 5 of the Modern Midwife Mysteries, Murder on the Green, for the Talking Information Center. I have been a volunteer there for many years. We record all types of printed material, magazines, national and local newspapers, grocery flyers and books for the visually and print impaired.

I have recorded the entire series and hope our listeners enjoy them.

NEW COZY MYSTERY ANTHOLOGY

I am thrilled that Maeve and company from the Modern Midwife Mysteries will return with a seasonal short story in a cozy anthology from Gemma Halliday Publishing. It is such an honor to be included with these fabulous authors. This eBook will be a true holiday treat.

The anthology is called Holidays & Homicides: Short Story Collection.

Deliciously Easy Pumpkin Bread

Prepare a 9x5 pan with cooking spray

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Ingredients:

1¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 1/3 cups pumpkin puree

1¼ cup granulated sugar

⅔ cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs at room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon maple syrup

Directions:

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and set aside.

In a second bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, sugar, oil, eggs, vanilla, maple syrup, and whisk until well combined.

Combine the two bowls and stir together until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.

Bake for 1 hour, or until a cake tester comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 20 minutes. Remove and cool completely if you can resist tasting!

Until next time...

I hope that you have a wonderful October. It's such a golden time. What are your favorite activities in the Fall? I've already been apple picking but I do need one more warmish day to read at the beach. Then I'm off to begin a new series I have been dreaming about.

Hope to catch you next time.
